Research seminar by Dr. Felix Nieto (University of La Coruna, Spain): November 21st at 4.00 PM , Room I-2 Faculty of Civil Engineering Bucharest

[Abstract] Effects of the gap distance in the aerodynamic and aeroelastic behavior of twin-box decks: computational and wind tunnel studies Twin-box decks, have been recently introduced in long-span bridges because this type of slotted cross-section provides flutter critical wind speeds higher than mono-box streamlined decks for flexible structures. The two parallel girders are linked together by means of transverse beams with a central gap between them. Experimental and CFD studies have shown that the length of this central gap plays a key role in the aerodynamic and aeroelastic responses of the deck. In this work, the geometry of the Stonecutters […]

Keynote Lecture by Professor Kenny Kwok (University of Sydney):October 3rd 11.00 am, Room I-2 Faculty of Civil Engineering Bucharest

Behaviour of Tall Buildings and Structures in Strong Winds – Dynamic Properties, Structural and Occupant Response Characteristics and Vibration Control Professor Kenny Kwok School of Civil Engineering The University of Sydney [Abstract] This presentation presents techniques and instrumentation employed in the measurement of the dynamic structural properties of tall buildings and structures, long-term monitoring of their responses in strong winds, and vibration mitigation systems installed in actual buildings and structures, mostly conducted on tall buildings and structures in Australia and Hong Kong. The merits and limitations of these techniques and the results are discussed. Natural frequencies of vibration, deflected mode […]
